Marylene is a meticulous and results-driven professional with over eight years’ experience working in demographic, health and poverty dynamics research in Africa. She has a strong interest in longitudinal and cross-sectional data auditing and statistical analysis using Stata, SAS and Nesstar. She holds a Master of Public Health degree (specializing in Biostatistics & Environmental and Occupational Health) from Emory University, USA and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University, USA. She joined APHRC as a Data Analyst in 2009 where her main duties involved data management, auditing and analysis. She has co-authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and reports. In her present position of Senior Data Analyst, she is mainly responsible for the longitudinal Nairobi Urban Health and Demographic Surveillance System (NUHDSS) but also collaborates on several other research projects under the Data, Measurement & Evaluation Unit. She is driven by the desire to contribute to leaving no one behind by ensuring the availability of quality data that tell the story of the urban poor, who are among the most disenfranchised groups in a rapidly-urbanizing sub-Saharan Africa.
